Woman Life Freedom Movement

On 13 September 2022, a 22-year-old Iranian Kurdish woman, Zhina (Mahsa) Amini was arrested in Tehran by Iran’s so-called “morality” police. She was violently beaten while in custody and died three days later. Mahsa’s death sparked widespread protests across Iran. Since then, the regime has brutally killed over 500 women, men, and children in different cities and jailed and tortured many more.

About Us

We are a community of Iranian faculty, staff, students, alumni, and allies at UCSF united in our commitment to providing health, and promoting human rights, particularly women's rights in Iran. We acknowledge Zhina (Mahsa) Amini's tragic death at the hands of the "morality" police as a glaring example of the repressive policies that have targeted women for years under the current regime. We stand in solidarity with the anti-patriarchal movements globally.

Our goals are to provide consultations with healthcare providers in Iran to address physical and mental health of protestors, raise awareness about human rights violations globally, and support scholars at risk who face financial obstacles in accessing higher education. Additionally, we are dedicated to enhancing health literacy and combatting misogyny. We are an impartial organization with no religious or political affiliations or financial interests. The opinions expressed here are solely our own, and the University of California has not endorsed them. Therefore, no endorsement should be inferred or assumed.
